…or possibly sometimes we just get lucky. Back in December, when all the pretty gift things were being displayed in garden centres, I was eyeing up a beautiful little cold frame. I really wanted it but at £20 it was a bit too expensive, especially as it was more decorative than functional (having room for only two pots at a time). I kept going back to look at it, but in the end decided to be sensible and leave it alone.
Fast forward two months. Yesterday I went to the garden centre for seeds and happened to wander past a table full of things which were on sale. Underneath the table, tucked away almost out of sight, were the very same cold frames… and they were marked down to 50% off. I couldn’t believe my luck, and after dithering for about ten seconds I grabbed two of them (well, like I said, they only hold two pots apiece).
I was so excited that I rushed to the till and paid for them, then went home – completely forgetting to buy the seeds that I’d actually gone in there to look for. Never mind, eh?
I spent a very happy afternoon pottering in the garden, sorting through the seeds I did have, tidying up and drinking numerous cups of coffee while listening to the birds sing. It was absolute balm for the soul. I still need to go back to the garden centre and buy some seeds (possibly with some blinkers on so that I don’t get distracted by any more bargains), but in the meantime I’ve got other seeds which will hopefully germinate quickly in the very mild weather we’re enjoying at the moment.
