I’m here, and I do have a sketch, and more to the point it’s from the EDM challenge list! Ok, it’s not the best sketch in the world, BUT that is sort of the point of this exercise for me. I’ve decided not to use my regular sketchbook (which is deliciously posh watercolour paper), but to instead use the little Moleskine pocket sketchbook I got for Christmas. It’s small, much more portable, and has very smooth pages. I’m planning to fill it with the EDM challenges, and to mainly use a pen of some sort (no colour). Oh, yes, and I’m going to start making a note of how long these take me – speed isn’t always a virtue, but I do think I get hung up on details sometimes so my aim will be to complete sketches in less than 15 minutes. Hopefully this will also stop me getting bored!
So, the first of the challenges is to draw a shoe. I took this very literally and did just draw the one shoe (although I did put the pair in front of me).
I love these shoes. They’re faux Crocs that I picked up in a Carrefour in Jakarta last year. I needed some comfy shoes as my flip flops had torn my toes to shreds, and these fit the bill (and were cheap as chips to boot). I’ve worn them to death: these shoes have been up not one but two active volcanoes, walked on the beach in Bali, walked onto show gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show, been all the way up to the beautiful Orkney Isles, traipsed through the red light district in Amsterdam, and danced at the Notting Hill carnival two years running. They are so unbelievably comfortable now, truly moulded to my feet… but I’ve worn them so much I’ve actually worn through the sole of the right shoe. That’s right, they now let in water from underneath as well as above.
So, they’re now confined to dry weather use only, and I’m now breaking in a new pair of Crocs (actual Crocs this time). I’m not enjoying the process, they’ve given me little blisters already and I’m not looking forward to wearing them in. Hopefully I’ll break them in faster than expected, but in the meantime I expect to be a little footsore and am actually glad the weather has turned cold as it means I can abandon them and wear boots instead!
Jenna over at Timballoo has a food related EDM challenge to show off today, pop along and see what she’s done.

Hurrah! Well done you for getting started, and I’m excited to see the rest of your challenges. Lovely Croc-sketch too, although I’m afraid I’m one of the Croc-haters of the world…
