Confused by the title? You probably are, unless you’re a fan of insects. Nezara viridula is commonly known as the Southern Green Shieldbug, and I have officially spotted one.
A few weeks ago I took this photo for my Project 365
25th September 2012 – “No idea, but I think it’s eating my beans”
As you can tell from the title of the photo, I didn’t have a clue what it was (although I did think it was guilty of eating my runner beans). So I asked a friend, who thought it was Nezara viridula and gave me this link to report it. I dutifully submitted my photo using the online form and didn’t think anything further of it.

So the unknown intruder was an unusual one, and almost certainly the critter responsible for eating my beans!
