Crafty Photo Scavenger Hunt: April

Inspiration

If you’ve been following my blog then it won’t have escaped your notice that I’ve been pretty busy on the sketching front, inspired by a wee scrap of a pup called Pebbles.  This is technically a terrible photo, but I love it because it was a quiet moment at work on my birthday.  Pebbles is prone to naughtiness, and when he’s been particularly naughty (breaking into the vegetable garden for the umpteenth time…) he earns himself a smacked bottom and then he’s ignored.  He hates being ignored, and it leads to him grovelling for forgiveness.  This photo is him trying to inveigle himself  back into my good books… and as you can see from the hand reaching to stroke him, he was successful!

Something I made

Still haven’t added this to my shop, but it’s probably my favourite of all the books I made this month.  The pages are a mixture of cartridge paper, watercolour paper and pastel paper, and the hard covers are bound with canvas – so you can draw inside and out!

Red

One of my favourite colours, so I loved this topic!  My favourite jacket is actually grey, but it’s got red and white polka dot edging in it, and I tend to wear it with this brooch (by the lovely Lise at Belle & the Bean, better known these days for her fabulous blog), and recently this scarf I picked up down Portobello Market.

Rocks

I meant to take a photo of actual rocks, but got caught short (I forgot that April only has thirty days!) and this was a last minute substitute.  Gravel, and York stone… cultivated rocks?

Motif: Western

A really tricky topic for me!  In the end I remembered that we have these little plant pots, which is the closest I could get to western…

March for me was all about the sketching, and daffodils in particular.

Couldn’t resist this fox, spotted at the Spring Knitting & Stitching show.

An odd one, but I did buy some pretty new things with numbers on!

Quiet

I struggled with this topic, but I think this photo will do – poor Scooby will never hear again after having his ears ripped off by the wee mutt in the background!

Crafty Photo Scavenger Hunt: February

Our host for February is Rachel over at The Awesome Lady, so please do pop over to her blog to find out who else is playing along.  I’m running really late with my photos this month and spent most of this morning trying to think of things to photograph – eek!

 

Inspiration

I like to jot down quotes and poems in a wee notebook, which occasionally gets flicked through when I’m looking for inspiration.  This particular notebook isn’t one of mine, it’s a Celeste Frittata creation.

Something I made

Despite the various commissions I’ve done this month, my favourite thing has been this rather frivolous use of time and paint…

New

I love it when a new season is on the horizon: at the moment I’m enjoying early spring bulbs and watching the blossom buds start to swell on trees.

Baking

Annoyingly I did actually bake a cake this month, but failed to photograph it!  Instead here’s a quick shot of one of the many, many recipe books littering our kitchen.

Motifs: Triangles

I was really quite stuck for this subject, then I sat down at my desk in despair and when I looked up the answer was staring me in the face: kirigami, stuck to my studio wall!

Last month my inspiration was actually motivation, and that motivation was fuelled by the need to earn money.  Not very artistic, but truthful.  This month my inspiration is equally truthful and just as unglamorous!  I have mainly been making things based on the ‘what needs using up?’ principle…

Something I made

Well, one of the plus sides of attacking anything in my path this month has been the sheer variety of books I’ve made.  I was a bit spoilt for choice…

What could be more delightfully retro than some Enid Blyton?

Motifs: Sequins

This category gave me The Fear when I first saw it.  I own precisely one item of clothing with sequins on, and it’s a summer top that hasn’t seen the light of day for a good few years.  What to do?  I was slightly worried I’d have to go out and start looking for a pearly king to photograph!  My luck was in though, I received a travelling craft box (long story) in the post last week and inside it was the perfect thing… not traditional sequins, but I jumped on them nonetheless!

CPSH – December favourites

January is vanishing at a rate of knots, so it’s about time I got my act together and chose my favourites from December!

Inspiration

I have two favourites in this category, Margot’s cup of tea, and Nicole’s stunning sunset.

Something I made

My favourite has to be Nicole’s steaming dish of tagine… it might be vegetarian (I’m very firmly a carnivore!), but it does look good!  An honorary mention goes to Sally for her use of sparklers

Gifts

I haven’t the foggiest what a dunny is, but I do like the look of this one as photographed by Sara over at Cinders & Rain.

Tradition

I have a fondness for records, which made choosing a favourite in this category very easy!  This is Margot’s shot of a record containing four Christmas stories which she listens to every year.

 

Motif: Stars

Simple, but effective, I really liked this shot of stars by Rachel over at The Awesome Lady.

CPSH – November favourites

Many apologies for being SO late choosing my favourites for November, but December has been a busy month.  Without further ado, here they are…

Inspiration

Ruth‘s shot of the skyline in Salzberg caught my eye, and just goes to show that you can take a photo into the light!

Something I made

I really liked Rachel’s wish jar, but Sally just edged into the top spot with her wonderfully starry cake

Fireworks

Shame on those of you who didn’t manage to get photos of actual fireworks – I managed to get two!  Ruth‘s shot of some hot sauce made me laugh, but I’m afraid the favourite in this category is the only one of real fireworks…

History

Margot‘s shot of a monument in Dhaka being devoured by a tree is beautiful, and I do love seeing nature reclaiming man-made things so this one was easy to choose

 

Flames

My joint favourites in this category were Ruth‘s candelabra shot, and Margot‘s photo of an old lady cooking dinner.  Both of them are so beautifully atmospheric!

Thanks so much for taking part in November, I’ve enjoyed seeing all your photos and I’m just really sorry it’s taken me so long to choose my favourites.  I will be less tardy with the December favourites, I promise!

Crafty Photo Scavenger Hunt: November

I’ve been inspired by quite a lot this month, but the thing that sticks in my memory most is an afternoon spent sifting through stamps…

Something I made

I made this at the very last minute before last weekend’s Kensal Flea, and typically it was sold to my first customer of the day!

I couldn’t decide between these two, so I’m cheating and posting both.
