Archive for the ‘Crafty Photo Scavenger Hunt’ Category

Our host for this month is Jenna over at Timballoo, click here to visit her blog and find out who else is playing along.

Inspiration

I’ve actually been overwhelmed with inspiration this month so it was difficult to work out what to photograph for this category, in the end I settled on some very recent inspiration which is still very much in the early stages…

Something I made

Something a little different this time… I’ve ignored all the crafty stuff I’ve made in my studio in favour of photographing these baked apple chips I made – surprisingly successful for a first attempt!

Cosy

On Sunday I went to my local cinema, which was celebrating its 4th birthday.  The Lexi is a fabulous little cinema and always feels very cosy, especially so on Sunday as they had added blankets to the seats.  This shot is of the balcony area which my fella and I had all to ourselves – the main film was E.T. so it was extra blissful to snuggle up under a blanket and feel like a child again! (The afternoon opened with a showing of The Red Balloon, which explains the balloons).

Supplies

My studio seemed the natural place to look for supplies to photograph, but I treated myself to some new bath salts this month and just love how they look all lined up on the bathroom shelf…

Motifs: Hallowe’en

Ok, so this photo doesn’t scream hallowe’en at first glance… but what about if I tell you it was taken on hallowe’en, outside a catacomb?  We went on a night-time tour of the Kensal Green catacombs last night and I took this photo just as we exited the building.  It came out amazingly well, that’s the original shot, no tinkering with filters required!

Many thanks to Jenna for hosting last month, and I’m sure she’ll be picking her favourites over the next week so do keep an eye on her blog to find out if your photo is one of them!  I will be choosing the topics for November, but I’m a little disorganised right now so I’m hoping to put them up here by Saturday at the latest.

Our host for this month is the ever modest Rachel over at The Awesome Lady ;)   Click here to visit her blog and find out who else is playing along.  I’m a day late with my submissions, but better late than never right?!

Inspiration

On Saturday I visited the Warner Bros. studio at Leavesden and had a whale of a time looking around the Harry Potter exhibition there.  I absolutely adore the Harry Potter books and constantly use them as a source of inspiration.  I took oodles of photographs whilst I was there, so I thought I’d just pick a random arty shot for this category! (Bonus points if you know which film this piece of scenery is from)

Something I made

A close up of the vintage school desk I revamped last month.

Changing seasons

Autumn is definitely here, and the leaves are just starting to flush from green at Kew Gardens.  I plan to go back in the next few weeks to see what should be a spectacular display of reds, yellows and oranges as all the leaves start to change before they fall.

Doodles/drawings

Once upon a time my art teacher did a lovely charcoal portrait of me.  I have it pinned up in my studio, and here’s a close up.

Motifs: music

Music doesn’t play much of a part in my life.  I never know what’s in the charts, and really I rarely listen to music at all (I prefer audio books when I’m at work, or silence).  I do love to see music on paper though, there’s something very attractive about those notes all down in black.  I have some vintage sheet music in my studio which I use every now and then to cover books, so I chose that as my subject for this photo.

Jenna over at Timballoo is our host for October, so please pay her a visit in the next few days to find out what the topics will be.

Our host for this month is Ruth over at The Goldhawk Project, click here to visit her blog and find out who else is playing along.

Inspiration

I’ve not done much in the way of crafting this month at all, but I have been catching up with a lot of reading.  I only intended to read one book but then got hooked into reading an entire series (A Song of Ice & Fire) so I guess the first book was pretty inspirational!

Something I made

As mentioned above it has been a very quiet month in the studio, so here is a photo of something made by another artist!  Two Falling Spoons, by David Nash, currently on display at Kew Gardens.

Old

I love this old water fountain at Kew Gardens

Surprise

I got these beautiful notecards through the post recently, a surprise from a friend :)

Hearts

Yummy biscuits!

Our host for this month is Sally over at Diario, click here to visit her blog and find out who else is playing along.

Inspiration

This month has definitely found me inspired by yarn of all sorts, especially after my trip to Fibre East.

Something I made

It was very tempting to take a photo of some knitting for this topic, but instead lets take a peek at a work-in-progress…

Art Deco

Tricky one!  In the end I settled on a shot of a little safe I’ve got which I think has an art deco feel to it…

Ladybirds

I got really lucky with this one as a ladybird hitched a lift into my house on some flowers I’d picked!

The Colour Blue

This gave me pause, because there’s not much in the way of blue in my life.  I thought I might have to resort to a photograph of some jeans, but then remembered that my beloved work cloggies have a fabulous striped insole!

Ruth over at The Goldhawk Project is our host for August, so please pay her a visit in the next few days to find out what the topics will be.

I’m a bit late choosing my favourites this time round, but here they are…

Inspiration

Ruth’s rather dramatic shot caught my eye for this category, I wonder if I’d ever be brave enough to do something like this?

Something I made

Sally’s cherry print clipboard is my favourite this time round, and I’m pleased to see she did get it done (whatever the method!) :)

Summer

I thought Ruth’s beautiful shot of a field in Chamonix was simply stunning, and welcome relief from the seemingly non-stop rain we’ve had here in the UK so far this summer.

Holiday

Margot’s photograph of Dartmoor in November captures the cold winter light beautifully.

But Rachel’s shot of Amroth beach is joint winner this time (again, I’m attracted by the light!).

Childhood

This was by far the easiest favourite to choose because Scrabble reminds me so strongly of my dad.  I loved playing Scrabble with him, even though he usually won, and I have a lot of fond memories of it.  Thank you to Ruth for this photo, I love it.

Thanks so much for taking part this month, it’s been lovely as always to see what you’ve chosen to post :)

Sally is our host for the CPSH in July so click here to see what topics she’s chosen, and I could do with someone volunteering for August so please shout out if you’re interested!

I’ll start off with a list of those people who are taking part – please do visit their blogs and have a look at their entries for this month.  If they haven’t posted their photographs yet then please be patient and check again later!

Inspiration

I’ve been doing quite a lot of reading this month, specifically about sketching.  There’s something a bit voyeuristic about seeing pages from another person’s sketchbook, but it’s inspirational too.  My current read is An Illustrated Life by Danny Gregory (review to follow in due course).

Something I made

Bit of a late contender for this category, and I’ll be blogging about this item on Monday so check back then for more details!

Summer

One of the things I take enormous pleasure in, when the weather permits, is pottering around in my garden.  Not necessarily achieving anything in terms of weeding/pruning – more like giving things a good coat of looking at, with occasional breaks to sit and read, and a large cup of coffee to hand.

Holiday

I was actually a bit stuck for this category, it’s a week too soon or I’d have loads of photos!  So I had a bit of an experiment with the different filters on the Vignette app and came up with this.  I like it, it makes me think of airport x-rays.

Motifs: Childhood

I sound like a stuck record but I do have real trouble throwing things away, which is why I still have (at the age of 31) my childhood bedding.  It hasn’t been used in twenty years, but I can’t bear to get rid of it and I’m sure some day I will turn it into something fabulous.

As usual I’ll be doing the rounds and will pick my favourites from the other blogger’s photos and will post them on here, but I’m going away for a few days so please check back towards the end of the week :)

Once again, a big thank you to those who took part last month – I hope you all enjoyed the topics!  It’s taken me a few days, but here’s a round up of my favourites.

Inspiration

It was very, very difficult to choose a favourite in this category.  I was torn between two and dithered for quite a while… but in the end I think Ruth’s dandelion wins it by a smidgen, with Sally’s yarn stash as a very close second (you might have come in first, if I didn’t have total stash-envy!).  Honourable mention goes to Margot with her bicycle panniers full of flowers.

Something I made

Jenna’s sketch of raccoons made me smile, they’re such mischievous-seeming creatures and her work captures them beautifully.

Urban

Another difficult one.  Jenna almost nabbed this with her lovely shot of a Seattle street, but in the end I think Margot’s photo of Dhaka is my favourite as it reminds me of Indonesia :)

Transport

Hands down favourite in this category is Rachel’s photograph of a Transformers collection.  WIN!

Graffiti

I have a real love of graffiti, so when I picked this topic at the beginning of May I was hopeful that there would be some good and varied submissions – and I wasn’t disappointed.  I loved them all, from Margot’s photo of the beautiful rickshaw decorations to Sally’s badly-spelled-yet-accurate comment on society.  A gold star goes to Rachel for her own creation, I did wonder if not living in the city would prove a challenge for this topic, but she rose to it admirably!  My favourite, though, is this shot by Jenna.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing all your photos this month, perhaps more so than usual because (being a born-and-raised Londoner) cities are so close to my heart.  I hope the summery topics for June inspire you for the coming month and I’m looking forward to seeing what you all come up with this time!

Sally has kindly volunteered to host the CPSH in July, and as I like to be organised please do shout out if you fancy hosting it in August.

Once upon a time there was a photographer and crafter called Kirsty, who came up with a brilliant idea for a blogging challenge: the Crafty Photo Scavenger Hunt (CPSH).  Kirsty ran the CPSH for a few months, but then real life got in the way and she was kept busy with her plans and preparations for moving to Canada.  I volunteered to guest host the CPSH until she had enough time to deal with it again.

Kirsty moved out to Canada last month, and now that she’s settled (and now known as Kiki!) she’s decided that the CPSH is something she’s permanently bowing out of hosting.  This makes me sad, because it was a wonderful concept, but Kiki is happy for me to continue running with her idea so I think I will!

The CPSH is good fun, and part of the enjoyment for me has been seeing others act as guest host occasionally (when I’ve been overrun with work).  As such I’d like to change the format slightly so that it’s a bit more like Weekword – with a different host every month.  I’m hoping that will keep it fresh, and also help to attract more participants.

So, here we go with the topics for June:

The Rules:

On the 1st of each month the host will post 5 categories.

Two categories will be the same every month: ‘Something you made’ and ‘inspiration’. The other three will change each time. You have the rest of the month to take a photo for each category.

By the last day of the month you should post your photos in a blog post and let the host know by either e-mailing them or posting a comment on their blog – make sure you give them the url of your blog so that they know where to link to.  The host will link to every participant’s photos and will also choose a favourite for each category and post them on their blog a few days into the new month.

If you’d like to volunteer to host the CPSH in July, then please shout out and let me know!

If you’re new to the Scavenger Hunt then please visit Kirst’s blog to see how this all began.  I’m acting as guest host again this month, and I hope you find everything to your liking!

I’ll start off with a list of those people who are taking part – please do visit their blogs and have a look at their entries for this month.  If they haven’t posted their photographs yet then please be patient and check again later!

Inspiration

I was a bit stuck for what to photograph for this month’s inspiration, because it’s been one of those months where pretty much everything I’ve seen has triggered my imagination.  I have particularly enjoyed drawing new designs to try out on my Gocco though, so I’ve stuck with a simple photograph relating to that.  It’s a bit dull, but I’m hoping the rest of my photos will make up for that!

Something I made

The topics this month are all on a similar theme, relating to cities and towns.  Earlier this month I made this funky fox, and as foxes are so prevalent in London I thought he’d be a good choice for this photo.

Urban

There was something I really wanted to take a photograph of for this topic, a fabulous graffiti mural of scenes from Sin City… but when I went to take the photo it had gone!  Ok, it’s been a while since I last saw it, I don’t pass that way often, but it was a bit of a shock nonetheless.  Instead we have a photo of the stereotypical block of flats.

Transport

I was spoilt for choice in this category, so many good photo subjects cropped up this month.  After much dithering I’ve chosen this snap of boats at the Canal Cavalcade in Little Venice a few weeks ago.

Motifs: Graffiti

Despite my favourite Sin City graffiti having been replaced by something inferior, I’ve seen quite a lot of graffiti this month.  Surprisingly most of it was at the Chelsea Flower Show!

I’ll be doing the rounds over the next few days and will pick my favourites from the other blogger’s photos and will post them on here.

What’s happening next month with the Crafty Photo Scavenger Hunt?  Pop back here tomorrow and find out…
