Once upon a time there was a photographer and crafter called Kirsty, who came up with a brilliant idea for a blogging challenge: the Crafty Photo Scavenger Hunt (CPSH).  Kirsty ran the CPSH for a few months, but then real life got in the way and she was kept busy with her plans and preparations for moving to Canada.  I volunteered to guest host the CPSH until she had enough time to deal with it again.

Kirsty moved out to Canada last month, and now that she’s settled (and now known as Kiki!) she’s decided that the CPSH is something she’s permanently bowing out of hosting.  This makes me sad, because it was a wonderful concept, but Kiki is happy for me to continue running with her idea so I think I will!

The CPSH is good fun, and part of the enjoyment for me has been seeing others act as guest host occasionally (when I’ve been overrun with work).  As such I’d like to change the format slightly so that it’s a bit more like Weekword – with a different host every month.  I’m hoping that will keep it fresh, and also help to attract more participants.

So, here we go with the topics for June:

The Rules:

On the 1st of each month the host will post 5 categories.

Two categories will be the same every month: ‘Something you made’ and ‘inspiration’. The other three will change each time. You have the rest of the month to take a photo for each category.

By the last day of the month you should post your photos in a blog post and let the host know by either e-mailing them or posting a comment on their blog – make sure you give them the url of your blog so that they know where to link to.  The host will link to every participant’s photos and will also choose a favourite for each category and post them on their blog a few days into the new month.

If you’d like to volunteer to host the CPSH in July, then please shout out and let me know!

I was wondering what I would find to write about for this week’s word, and then on Wednesday the answer just fell into my lap.  Jihae Hwang’s DMZ Forbidden Garden, at the Chelsea Flower Show, was the perfect subject.

The garden is surrounded by a fence of barbed wire, and although I scoffed at the blurb in the show guide (“The barbed wire fence surrounding the garden creates a feeling of mystery and unease.”) it was actually spot on.

The garden is full of little details, which you can’t see from the outside.  Normally this would be a problem, as the usual practice is for the show gardens to remain pristine and people aren’t allowed inside them.

The DMZ garden is different.  They were allowing visitors to cross the boundary and enter the garden, which I think might be a first for Chelsea as I don’t recall visitors ever being allowed into show gardens prior to this.

This was easily my favourite garden at Chelsea this year, and being able to stand in the centre of it and see all the fine detail made it even better.  Some boundaries should be crossed.

Kiki over at Camera Kiki is hosting Weekword this week, pop along to her blog and see who else is playing along.
